Spreading Our Wings

I realized last year I was being pretty hard on myself in terms of what I viewed as success or failure with Mint.

I sorta let that distract me.

I was also learning a lot about myself and my own patterns with all this self reflection.

The Prodigy addition and the success we have had with it really helped me build back to a place of feeling happy about my job  again.

It’s a similar feeling to winning a disc golf event.

It keeps you coming back. Success drives focus.

The product starts to speak for itself.

Two of our next three disc releases will be fast fairways.

One from MVP and one from Prodigy.

What I’m about to go into next is also my opinion/view of our partner factories. I have not asked either for statements for this blog.

MVPs approach to design starts with gyro.

I’ve known those guys since they started selling prototypes. Seen them claw their way from a forum idea to an industry leader.

Gyro isn’t their whole story though. I have always appreciated their dedication to clean lines. I think they inherently understood(from a marketing perspective) that they had to deliver perfection.

They worked for years refining the way that overmold fits the inner core.

They have made it feel almost seamless now.

We got to witness some of that firsthand as they tinkered with shapes.

If you look at the Alpha, it has what I would call an old school or maybe classic fast fairway shape.

That disc at that time was going to compete with the PD and Thunderbird.

The nose of the Alpha starts smooth and ends with sharp and angular before you hit the wing.

Eventually we released the Grackle and Diamondback.

The Grackle is slower. The shape is also smoother. More rounded. Fits comfortably in the hand.

The Diamondback is faster. Thinner nose, but still has a smooth and sleek profile.

The new fairway from Prodigy will feel like the classic style fairway. It is a return to those old school shapes like the Alpha.

Will it compete for Alpha slots? Yup.

So did the Diamondback and Grackle.

I think people will find a slot for this disc though. Similar to the Pickle vs our other putters.

It’s one of those discs that covers a lot of flight numbers.
