One more day

We’re so close to The Open.

Pretty happy with this year’s layout.

MPO is mostly the same.

One new long pin on 17.

FPO has shorter tees on 4, 7, 12, and 15.

They will also return to the shorter pins on 3 and 14.

Both divisions will play to 12s long pin.

For FPO this change to 12 means they have more room on the green to operate if they don’t park it.

However it does bring some OB into play if the drive is cooked.

For Hole 18, I expect we’ll see players get more aggressive. MPO specifically.

The shots required to execute 18 haven’t changed.

The rules are just more forgiving.

Hazard allows them to move forward.

We haven’t played this version of the hole locally so there’s a part of me that’s really curious to see how the players attack this green now.

The big arms know a 3 is in play if they take a power hyzer over the top of the cedars on their approach. So they’ll try to get high left off the tee to make the second shot into the green more attainable. As long as you finish that second shot across or in the hazard you are still looking at a 4 or 5. Best case it’s parked for a 3.

This change sort of makes the tee shot more impactful. You’ll need to be absolutely dialed to set up the rest of the hole.

Given all that…

I’m planning to just post photos of the event for the next few days.

The course will speak for itself starting tomorrow.

I will recap it all sometime next week.
