It's dawning on me that I'm coming up on the half way point of this blog soon.
I am also really enjoying my role with Mint lately.
We are really focusing back in on Austin as well as improving our merchandising.
We put a lot of that on hold to build Sprinkle DGC and host US Women's and The Open at Austin the past few years.
Those projects are behind us now. They brought a lot of good though for the brand, myself and Austin in general.
Big events however are not the long term direction for Mint. Maybe every few years, but they are just not worth the stress and burden of it all no matter what the Pros want you to think.
It just isn't sustainable without selling significantly more inventory or finding a sponsor that can put up $100,000 to help us run an event.
There is a reason Ledgestone goes so hard with merch every year!
I've also learned a few things since the Covid boom.
Covid basically sped up my personal timeline for the lessons I needed to learn when it comes to disc golf and business.
I don't think Sprinkle happens without that boom. I think we maybe don't take the leap of faith that it required. I would have never bid for USWDGC or worked so hard to be involved in The Open at Austin with the boom.
I would have never quit my job with benefits to do this.
I would not have started running A-Tiers or even any PDGA events without Covid.
I would not have taken over HOTT.
I've harped on some of this in other blogs already so I don't need to do another history lesson here.
I can tell you that in previous blogs I was very much DONE with events when it came to talking about some of the event based topics.
As of today, I am getting excited again.
Mainly because our focus is shifting back to leagues and community events.
That's something we haven't done in a while outside of putting.
It was time for something new and fresh for us.
I think for Austin too.
I am enjoying that.
Getting back to Mint.
