Forward Momentum (Day 343 of 365)

The HOTT Finals are this weekend at Sprinkle.

Starting in 2026 I'll be contracting out a majority of my HOTT events to Goose Promotions. Jacob and his team have been major contributors to the Austin scene for the past few years including running a few HOTT events of their own.

I am moving into a managerial role with HOTT.

I am really excited to have some other folks running these events.

For one, I just need some more time for myself.

I also want more time for Mint and Sprinkle.

HOTT can't really grow until I take this next step with it. The schedule is pretty set. I don't expect many(if any) new events in 2026.

I do want better quality events though and I think HOTT can do a better job promoting it's own events.

The tour did a great job in 2021-2022 with our sponsors and overall atmosphere. Player turnout was much higher too. It just made more sense to put more into the events back then.

We took our foot off the gas with a lot of those things in 2023 and it's just sort of been that way all the way through 2025.

Sprinkle and USWDGC took a majority of my brain power in 2023 and 2024.

By 2025, event registration was having some massive dips and fluctuations. It became really hard to predict which events would sell out. Not just for HOTT and PDGA, but every type of event.

Players just don't have a reason or the means the sign up early now.

That put's a lot of these events in a chicken vs the egg situation.

Organizers can't buy trophies and disc without player commitments. TD's can't get food and beer for a players party without players. A lot of players won't sign up if the player pack or players party isn't awesome enough.

Most importantly, players also don't sign up unless they see a lot of other players they know signed up.

So we need to find ways to cover those gaps. Get people interested in events again.

The original vision when I took over HOTT was to feature premier events and courses.

I think we have done that.

We play at some of the states best courses: Ranch, Sprinkle, Moody's, Roy G, Live Oak Hillside, Benbrook Ranch, Dogwood/Tyler, and Veterans Park.

All of these event have been running for 15+ years: Veterans Park Open, Victoria Open, Capital of Texas Open, Waterloo, Red Rock Show, Oktoberfest, Live Oak Summer Open, Gonzo Liberty Battle, The Sizzler, and Piney Woods.

Many on that list are at 25+ years. Some are over 30.

We are very luck to have such a healthy disc golf community with elite level courses and historically important events.

All the pieces are there to make HOTT one of the best tours in the world.

The best courses. The best events. More players than any state.

Let's step it up a notch.
