Yesterday was the last HOTT event before the finale at Sprinkle.
The Leftovers is something I want to dedicate more time to next year.
Same for Mint Discs Open and COTO.
Starting next year I am passing off some of my HOTT events.
I am really just lighting my load and letting the next group take it over.
I also want to continue to build a stronger event network and overall community feeling.
Think of this change more like a restructuring of management.
Originally HOTT was less than 10 events year.
When I took it over, we kept mostly the same schedule and added a few events like Bat City and MDO. Points weren’t something we tracked.
Some of the needs of the community we’re crystal clear after that first year - they wanted to either give up their event to HOTT or they wanted to join forces.
So we did what I’ve become known for.
We said yes to it all.
I put a focus on A Tiers and B Tiers while everyone else focused on flex starts.
It also gave us more control of the local schedule.
Some TDs had approached others.
Some others caught wind of the tour’s expansion through the telephone game.
Some we went after.
The overarching mission though was to unite any large independent events that wanted to be a part of something.
Some of the events have blossomed in ways I never expected.
It’s incredibly time consuming to do Mint and HOTT.
And Sprinkle Valley.
It’s time to give HOTT some new life and for me to take a different role.
I’ll move to more of a true management role with HOTT aside few key events.
Sprinkle will get more of my time.
Mint is still the priority though.
It is funny though that just a few years ago all I could dream about was running Majors and A-Tiers.
Now I’m obsessed with how to shift more energy into leagues.
Sprinkle certainly was a part of that equation.
The changing economics of the game have played a part as well.
It feels weird to spend our event energy on the two extremes of PDGA tiers - Leagues and A-Tiers.
But it makes sense.
And I see a path I haven’t in a few years.
I’ll reveal more about HOTT next week.
Until then, I hope you had a great holiday.
Thankful for every disc golfer I’ve ever met.
Ready for Monday.
