Finished the back 9 of Fire on the Mountain today. Chose that 9 because it was the first course done for the day. That will allow me to go knock out the front 9 of EP fast after MPO finishes it tomorrow.
I got to play the back 9 with Moody today too. That was a lot of fun. Just talking and throwing. It’s been a while since I think we actually played together.
For the most part I haven’t really tried to care how I play for this first week back. Not really doing any warmup or playing. I’m just trying to throw lines. Get my golf game sound.
I also take a lot of non-tournament shots(at least for me). Rollers, skip thumbers and even some forehands.
The putt isn’t bad but it’s not reliable. I’m starting to see “my putt” again. Yes I mean SEE it. I can tell when it’s on that line the second it leaves my hand. I’ve just missed enough in the past to know the difference.
My backhand is in the same boat. I’ve also unintentionally limited myself to Grackles and Mustangs.
I just like the lines they hold. I can throw them the same way and one just goes further.
I think Sprinkle has also played a large role in that bag shift. I throw a lot of Mustangs and Grackles there by default.
I need to get some good Longhorns back in the bag to start to see where my distance shots are at.
Just to be clear, my only expectation right now with playing is that I play every day. I’m not to worry about being a “1000 rated” player but I can feel my brain starting to lean that way. I also know I just don’t have the time or mental space to want to be a good player. So I need to let it happen on its own. I’ll push myself there eventually. It’s coming. Whether it’s 2025 or 2026…it’ll happen when it happens.
I am also in a different place than most players. Everyone usually wants to talk to me about the same things. So when I jump back into competing, that will be a focus for a lot of people. I need to get numb to that mentally so that it isn’t a distraction when I decide to play PDGA events again.
