A Lost Weekend

Well the Mint team got hit with something last week.

After a solid round of practice Friday, my body felt completely exhausted for the rest of evening.

I figured I was just out of shape.

Hydrate, stretch, eat well, rest.

Get ready to play.

Saturday morning said NOPE real fast.

I was sick.

Missed everything at Sprinkle this weekend.

Watched Worlds alone. I’m not touching that foot fault call either. I think the disc golf world knows the optics and opportunities. If you want my opinion on it; find me on the course.

Silas played like a champ. He is owed all the congratulations. Rainers is an absolute joy to watch.

The last time I practiced to play was Gonzales.

As I drove to the course a few years ago, I went smack into a pack of hogs.

Those dents you see in my Dad’s old Tundra at Sprinkle? Thats the hogs.

I missed that tournament.

I am really bummed I wasn’t able to be there for the Worlds Watch Party we had.

The time alone on the couch did give me some good perspective though.

I tried to not talk to anyone about what happened Sunday at Worlds. I avoided Reddit until late that night. I intentionally didn’t blog about it until now.

Today I realized I had no desire to talk about the Worlds call beyond using it to lead into this…

A lot of people ask me when I’ll play again.

I’m public enough that it matters to people. It matters to me.

I am serious about playing again.

I also have a habit of signing myself up for my own events when there are no pros.

I make nice bait apparently.

This time I am doing this for me.

Not for a comeback for the Mint socials.

Not to prove I’m 1000 rated to you.

I just want to play tournaments.

I am tired of running them. Ive been trying to give them away for years.

Now the fact that I’ve had life throw me some very real curveballs the two times I actually intended to play tells me some other stuff.

Other people miss tournaments for the same reasons all the time.

I am not special in that regard.

Other people had reasons they couldn’t hang out with everyone at Sprinkle this weekend.

I am not special in that regard.

Disc Golf is a life time activity for most of us.

It will come and go as life demands it.

But it will always be here to welcome you when you are ready.

Find the version of disc golf you want to be involved in.

Whatever it is to you.

Enjoy the heck out of it.

Love it.

It will always be here.

Maybe reach out to your friends that you haven’t played with in a while. Check on them.

Just make sure life comes first.

It doesn’t matter when the bumps in the road occur.

They will happen.

That is what Rainers, Silas and Goose were reminded of this weekend.

That is why all 3 made lead card.

You keep going.

You don’t have to explain or rationalize the when or the why.

You just have to try again.

Thats golf.

I will keep trying.

Until it works.

  • We missed you this weekend, but that definitely won’t be the last watch party. Hope you’re feeling better.
