The Disc Golf Capital of the World

Earlier this week the Disc Golf Pro Tour announced it was bringing the Powerball Cup to Austin starting in 2027.

That's two stops in Austin next year.

The venue has not been announced yet but I think most people can asses the possible options. I'll let you all debate what it could be. That's not for me to talk about.

What I want to talk about is how awesome this for Austin.

Disc Golf is literally played 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year in Austin.

It does not stop.

For me personally this is one of those little validations that make me smile.

Our goal has been to champion this community.

I think it says a lot about what this community is really capable of when the Disc Golf Pro Tour feels comfortable enough to publicly say "Course TBD" but we're coming.

This decision take years of conversations and plans.

With Mint doing everything we can to not only attract more disc golf here, but to build it and maintain it.

None of that happens without countless others being willing to also say yes.

Not to mention all the arguments and debates that test friendships.

NADGT started showing up here in 2019.

We won the bid for US Women's in 2023.

The Open moved here in 2023.

In 2024, the area hosted The Open and USWDGC back to back.

That's a very rare thing for a community to do, but overall the community met the demand when the sport asked that of it.

So for 2027 we will have two events in Austin. Plus NADGT.

Plus all the A-Tiers, B-Tiers, Flex starts and leagues.

The clubs at every course. Iconic ones like Waterloo that have put in the work for more than 40 years.

The stores like Disc Nation, Another Round and Play it Again sports.

Don't forget all the local tours that come through: HOTT, Wildflower, Austin Am Series, Power DGA, and Armory's TDTG.

Down the road in San Marcos is Flying Armadillo.

Bart is the oldest existing course in Texas.

Investments from breweries like Austin Beerworks and Live Oak Brewing.

Continued support of the courses from entities like the Austin Parks Foundation and Travis County Parks Foundation.

There is a thriving disc golf community here.

Hopefully we are just getting started.

Thank you to everyone that has answered the call when disc golf rang.

You are the reason disc golf is here.

  • Wells Branch Disc Golf Course just turned 30 years old this year. Having caddied and played at some of the best courses in the world I can say Austin is truly one of the Top disc golf destinations. Keep up the good work. It was awesome when Wells Branch got to host the 2024 FJ16 girls. Mike Wellsbranch Everyday Shay.
