Forward Momentum (Day 11 of 365)

Forward Momentum (Day 11 of 365)

It's Sprinkle Valley day for the blog!

Let's jump right into this.

We had our first official course work day of 2025 today.

Xan and Jacob showed up, just like every day last year. They continued the age old debate of Craftsman vs DeWalt. It's Milwaukee either way, but they don't want to hear that from me.

For almost everyone else that showed up, this was their first time helping out at Sprinkle. That was cool to see.

When we were building the course in 2023 we had built a pretty good crew that always came to help.

The odd thing was that no one then was really a regular yet since the course wasn't fully open. They were just disc golfers showing up to help. Every time. You knew if those 10 people were there, you probably should be too.

Now we have Sprinkle Valley regulars showing up to help too.

They cleaned up the right side of Hole #2. The vines, dead trees, and all. After about 2 hours of pulling briars we wandered over to Hole 5 & 6 to clean up some dead trees. The team worked our way to Hole #9s basket to end the day and opened up the left side of the basket. Your odds of making putts should be a little higher.

So I'm really looking forward to getting to know all the new people who come out to help. Afterall, you can learn a lot about people when they have chainsaw in their hand!

We do have to get the course ready for The Open at Austin anyways.

Yup. That's right, the Open is coming Sprinkle Valley for 2 days.

Sprinkle will be the Thursday/Friday course for the DGPT Elite+ event this year. The event is March 20th to 23rd, the final two days being at Harvey Penick. That's the same weekend we hosted US Women's last year. I can't believe that was 10 months ago to be honest. We've hosted a lot of big events since US Womens: NADGT Finals, Texas Am Championships, COTO, and HOTT Finals. It's been an absolute blur.

We are getting new turf too thanks to DGPT! The old turf will get rotated and used for other projects on the course. I'm still dreaming of a Par 54 layout that is a little more fun to play year round.

Anyways, we will also be adding a new long tees(TBD!) for the Open and also using the long basket locations for 2 & 11. We don't usually keep these pin's active throughout the year as they can really slow down play on the course. There's a few more wrinkles but I need to save some of that for another blog on another day.

Our next work day is going to be January 25 from 9am to 11pm.

Until tomorrow.

  • I have to admit, the Craftsman did last longer and was more effective than the DeWalt.
