Putting League, Camp Sprinkle & Glow Freetails
I know exactly what to talk about today.
Let's start with Putting League.
Mint Discs exists because of a putting league...
Guy, Chris and myself first had the idea to start Mint Discs at the original South Austin Putting League at Red Shed Tavern(defunct now). This league was operated by the Bat City Bombers, a club that I helped found and run.
Now in 2025 we are teaming up with the Hill Country Hyzers and Texas Chain Rattlers to start a series of professional putting only tournaments. The first tournament will be called the Austin Brewery Championships of Putting.
Each group will run their normal "league" starting next week(1/28). The Hill Country Hyzers will be operating every other Tuesday at Red Horn Brewery in Leander. Mint Discs will operate the Sprinkle Valley league on Wednesdays(for 6 weeks) as the Central location. The Texas Chain Rattlers will handle Thursdays down south at Live Oak Brewing Co(also 6 weeks).
Each league will award 6 places per division to play the finals. We will also have a "last minute" day-of Qualifier on 3/8 at Sprinkle for 6 more spots per division. Each league will take $1 per player to pool towards the Championship payout. Mint Discs will match this total dollar for dollar as well as part of their sponsorship.

The Central Texas Putting League (CTP) is also a thing now.
As part of this new joint venture we are uniting together under the new banner of the Central Texas Putting League. Not all events at these Brewerys will be CTP events. We will denote when an event is part of the Central Texas League this with the new "CTP" basket logo.
Future CTP tournaments will be open to other putting leagues in Central Texas if they wish to join the fun.
So what is Camp Sprinkle?
This was the original event I planned to host at Sprinkle Valley on March 8-9, 2025. This started out as a Team/Group Challenge concept inspired by the various Teams event around Austin. We thought Sprinkle would be a great venue for something like this.
We originally planned to host the event on March 1-2, but then a bunch of other stuff conflicted. Dudes Dubs moved to this date(we missed the announcement) & Disc Golf Expo South was announced as a new thing in Dallas. So we moved it to March 8-9, which was "doable" but still pretty close to The Open at Austin.
The plan was to host a teams "survivor" type event. We would offer 2 divisions: 4-man teams and Single Players. You would then be assigned to a Camp of 16 players and compete for "flags" that were worth certain points. We wanted it feel like an actual Summer Camp. You were going to be forced to make new friends, camp, and play very little disc golf. We only planned to have 1 round of disc golf, and about 20 other side games. Putting Course, Roller Course, Accuracy, Trivia, Hide and Seek, Capture the Flag, etc.
By randomizing the 16 person Camps and deprioritizing disc golf it was way to also reduce bagging and teams just there to compete. We wanted people who were there for the community, not themselves.
The vision was to make an adult disc golf camp that had nothing to do with disc golf. It was about making friends and memories.
So why did we cancel it? Well, it is a very complicated event to run with a lot of unknown liabilities. We need staff for every side game. We have to test every side game. The beer situation was also going to be hard. You can't bring in outside alcohol on the property because this is a Brewery/Bar. Despite ABW extending great pricing to make it affordable for everyone, we were also really uncomfortable with overserving someone.
Basically, Camp Sprinkle has to be run like a music festival.
We just did not have time to execute it at that level by March 8th. With everything else we have going on and the Open at Austin coming up March 20-23, we decided it was wise to put this project on hold. It's something we can work on for the Winter of 2025-26 though. I'd rather give us time to do this thing right when we do it.
That said, I will probably test some of these Camp Sprinkle games later this summer. TBD on the exact details, so just stay tuned for now.
Now do you want to hear about Nocturnal Glow Freetails?
We will be hosting our next stamp party on February 1st 2025 from 4pm to 8pm.
Assuming our pallets of Freetails arrive in time, we will have this Stamp Party featuring new art from Skulboy Designs.
We are also planning to live stream this party on Twitch and/or Youtube. This will be a test for the eventual launch of the Mint Discs Stamping daily-ish stream with Guy Boyan.
We expect Glow Freetails to be made available at a few other special events(I can't reveal those yet) to start in February. Later in the month we will make them available for wholesale and custom stamping, with a set release date for everyone to have access to and not just Austin Texas locals only.
Until tomorrow.
I hope I can make it up there for the stamping party. I need a Nocturnal Freetail with wonderbread foil. I am getting closer to having an entire bag of nocturnal discs with wonderbread foil. I just need a bullet, lobster, taco and freetail.
