Forward Momentum (Day 242 of 365)

Got some great unsolicited feedback on Reddit.

We need to make the flight numbers more visible on the website.

A lot of our systems are built on routine.

built around a serial #.

the flight numbers were an afterthought, just a placeholder at the bottom of the website.

they always came after the serial #.

In everything.

We stuck to that formatting.

That system naming routine.

Maybe we finally outgrew that.

I try to be more aware of these scenarios where I don’t just keep things simple and give people what they want.

Overall, I do think we need to advertise the flight numbers better.

I also think it’s something we need to feature more with each new run. We do it some, but not always.

This is where simple feedback on Reddit becomes a major project.

This is where I divert my focus and leave other projects unfinished.

Thats the part of me I’m trying to fix with this blog.

That drift.

I want to complete more than I start, more consistently.

  • just briefly (or i’ll try and fail)

i remember reading that on reddit too.

i think one major thing that would help everyone in the disc golf community is to step away from this perceived safety rail of flight numbers. The numbers are helpful in understanding a good idea of what the disc should fly like, but i think people get too selective on specific numbers and just create an idea of what the flight might be based on whatever number stands out to them. Anyway, im also aware that people by and large will never just forgo relying on the flight numbers.

That said, i think what would help people understand discs are using images. Mainly two types—- the chart that is stability (turn+fade) vs speed, and the flight illustrated by a line and distance thrown. If you go on mydiscbag.com, that’s the what i’m talking about.

It can all just be even like one page: four sections: Putters, mids, fairways, drivers.

So like with mids, on the same chart and illustration, you got the bobcat, lobster, mustang and you can easily understand how they fly different from each other.

For me, flight numbers are four numbers i need to make sense of, and then compile them into one concept of a flight, and then do the same with another disc just to compare the two, as opposed to just looking at an image, and having that comparison done for me.

    Anyway, just an idea.
