Forward Momentum (Day 79 of 365)

I posted this graphic on my Facebook yesterday.

Edit & disclaimer: a majority of the data is from udisc. I don’t know these courses well enough to accurately say when they are open.

I’ve been reminding myself a lot lately that Sprinkle Valley doesn’t have to be perfect yet. It doesn’t have to be the best course in the world. It doesn’t have to be iconic.

Do I want it to be? Fuck yes.

So do all the volunteers that built it. Austin Beerworks is investing in it too. We can’t let them down.

For as close to DGPT as many players are, very few understand what it takes to manage a property not just for their benefit but for everyone else.

This course is just 2 years old. It is played 365 days a year.

These layouts aren’t made for them. They are permanent improvements. The locals get to play them. The pros get harder OB. That’s it.

We have had every level of PDGA tournament here now. How many course can say that after 2 years?

It’s the only modern course on the tour circuit that is in a major metropolitan area and is also open basically every day.

That was the goal. A destination stop that easy to get to. A brewery. A disc golf store. Good trucks. Music.

Disc Golf Dreams.

Not perfect lines. Not appeasing the touring pros opinions.

They are here for 2 days.

Austin is here every day.

The touring pros have no investment in Sprinkle. Thats why they talk like they do sometimes.

This mentality has helped me manage expectations in 2025. Avoid some burnout.

It’s also created a new drive in me.

The property has a lot led to give.

I’m ready to perfect it.

After The Open we plan to start SLOWLY adding in a par 3 layout.

If we host DGPT again, we’ll continue to make changes for FPO and MPO.

There were always plans to lengthen each hole on the course, but we don’t need to rush into them.

It helps to see how the holes play out at these big events too.

Go back to that spreadsheet again really quick…

Most of those classic DGPT courses have had 10+ years to dial it all in. Many have had multiple redesigns.

Mentally I understand that now.

It’s 11:15pm. I gotta be up at 4am for The Open. The blog will go live when I wake up.

  • Another reasonable distinction we should make in the graphic is Seasonal vs Temporary. Like yes, Maple Hill is technically Seasonal, but when it’s not Winter, anyone and everyone can play it. This is not true of the Temporary courses like Eureka and Harvey Pennick, which are built only for Pros. The way you present the data is a little unfair to the northeast courses that are doing their best
