Forward Momentum (Day 82 of 365)

Forward Momentum (Day 82 of 365)

Both years I’ve looked back on Hole 18 and wondered why it ended up that way.

The answer is timing.

Both times the hole was changed days ahead of the event.

Both times the intention behind the hole and what it represents at the end of the course are ruined because of timing.

Short baskets are easy to add

Short tees too.

The final hole though? The final green? That has a lot of intention.

It takes good timing.

The right intention.

A change was made because the fear was that someone getting a 20 would feel bad.

Guess what, a 13 does to.

There is no minimum score that makes it easy to watch someone cry.

The hole is also doable.

They play the exact same style green on Hole 1 at Harvey Pennick.

Is this the limit for disc golf? Do we stop pushing it here?

The timing is everything.

  • It really is timing.

The first one to go off the beaten path faces all the resistance.

Don’t discredit the disc golfers - they’re way too good to not adapt. You know back in the 2000s, Tony Hawk was considered the best skateboarder because he did the trick the 900 that had never been accomplished before. Cut to today—- a nine year old has done it three times in a row.

It’s not simply about evolution of skill, it’s about evolution of thinking as well. Disc golf is in a weird spot as it blew up doing what it’s always done, thinking how it’s always thought. But as we float down to earth, some are starting to see that maybe that way of thinking isn’t the only way. Things that are new always get so much attention. And then the reputation holds for a bit, and then the field catches up. And then kids are left asking each other what the hell the old guys were on about back then.

    Anyway— the more IMPORTANT stuff—-

some quotes i heard from pros:

“driving here i was like where the hell is this google maps taking us, but as soon i walked through, i was like okay i like the vibes here”

“the backbone of the best course in austin is there. just needs a little fine-tuning”

“being able to chill after [the round] and get that pizza is so nice”

“let me tell you, this is wayyyyy more funner than being stuck in [redacted]”

i think the spectators enjoyed it as well. Spectating from my end, i loved it more than spectating a pro tour at other courses (i can only compare to three others so far).

    Great job.

  • Timing is absolutely crucial. But without challenges what’s the point, IMO
