This is one of the blogs where I want to say “I get a day off”.
But I have hated every one of those I’ve done so far.
It ends up feeling so blah. Lack of intention.
So intention.
Hole 18.
I am not done with you.
Some players have made the argument that a hole shouldn’t outweigh the course.
I don’t really get that.
The hole solved as many off the course problems as it caused on.
People paid attention to the event.
Spectators showed up hard on Friday.
The venue they built was unleashing havoc on their favorite players.
It was must watch.
It was shared everywhere.
So why are we running from that?
Because you played bad?
So to the players I ask:
Do you want 1000 people on 18s green?
Do you want a huge fly mart?
Do you want better amenities for you at events?
Do you want to help build a community?
Do you want to grow the sport?
Do you want enough volunteers to show up?
Hole 18 can do all of that.
For you, for Texas, for Sprinkle.
For everyone.
It can be a uniter or a divider.
Come at it from our perspective.
These are the things that get affected by your opinions of every course.
Austin is not the only community that gets defensive of our courses.
It’s a growing trend and part of why the local organizing committees burn out year after year.
By the “need” to bend the knee for two days each year.
Play it as it’s designed.
No drop zones. Cross the fairway to advance. Cross the green to the advance.
Earn respect.
Prove your skills.
Par the hardest hole in the world.
This hole should piss you off.
You are competitors.
Figure it out.
Every incredible course has that 1 hole that people want to see a pro defeat or get chewed up on…and for that i second what Mitch said “HELL YEAH!”
HELL YEAH!
